Overview

Lost Records: An Ancient Mystery is the second-tier Lost Records volume — focused on cryptic ancient mysteries, archeological discoveries, and unsolved historical questions in Eyrda. Contains references to entities and events that aren't fully explained even in the volume itself.

This article covers the in-world story content, lore beats, and player relevance.

Farewell Gift

Kalick fell ill with a strange disease. The wizards said that to heal him, his heart needed to be replaced. Despite their concern, Kalick laughed and said, "It's fine, I'm old, and if I die before her, I'll fulfill my promise." He spoke of his wife, Lea, with whom he had been since their youth. They had agreed long ago on who should die first, as it was easier to die first than to see the other off. That day, the wizards performed a final examination on Kalick, and he agreed. In a deep sleep, he dreamed of Lea, young and laughing. Upon waking, he found Lea gone, with a note: "Take my heart and continue living."

The Mentor

Mr. Shalbar appeared to be around 60 years old. He claimed to be the godfather of Reggie Jones and a close friend of Corvus, having participated in legendary events. I was fortunate to meet him once. He showed me his books: "How to Kill a Giant Dragon," "How to Become a Hero in 30 Days," and "Magic for Dummies," claiming they were by famous heroes. At the time, I aspired to be a renowned bard. Years later, having abandoned the unprofitable bard profession, I returned to find Mr. Shalbar, only to learn he had died three years prior.

Mermaid's Tears

A young man once found a wounded mermaid on the shores of Free Harbor. He took her home, cared for her, and they fell in love. On their wedding day, she cried tears of joy, which turned into pearls. The next day, he sold these pearls to a distant merchant, allowing them to move from a shack to a mansion. But when the money ran out, and she no longer cried, he resorted to violence to make her cry again. Over time, he grew richer, but she longed for the sea. When she tried to escape, he chained her. She died, and her pearls turned back into tears.

Health

While traveling through Eyr, a wizard invited me to a strange city. The residents were amazed I had two arms, legs, eyes, and ears, while I marveled at their multiple heads and limbs. They gave infants a potion that ensured they never got sick. "Isn't growing up like that a disease?" I asked. "No," the wizard replied, "here, you're the sick one. Want to be healthy?" I fled in terror.

The Oath

Ten years ago, by the sea, they discussed a promise. "I will love you forever," he said. "But death will separate us," she replied. "Death won't part us," he insisted, "if you die, I'll follow." A month later, he left for a voyage, promising to return and marry her. Ten years passed, and he returned with a new wife and child. "Do you remember our promise?" she asked. "Yes," he replied, ashamed. "Good," she laughed, "it's time to fulfill it." He noticed a gravestone with their names.

Two-Faced

"I'm an honest man," the aristocrat claimed, but a voice from his belly accused him of selling children and burying maids. "Did you do it?" I asked. "No, save me!" he pleaded. "He did it all!" the voice insisted. The aristocrat tore at his clothes, revealing a face on his belly that continued to accuse him.

Through the Veil

"You're dead," she told me. "Why don't I know?" I asked. "Your soul refuses to believe it," she said. "Prove it," I challenged. "I can talk to the dead," she laughed. "Show me," I demanded. "A dead man can't die again," she replied, drawing a dagger. I ran, hearing her voice: "How lonely to be the last living person."

Hope

She stood by the shore, boarding every ship, hoping to see her husband who had left years ago. One day, she mysteriously turned to stone, becoming the Stone of Hope. Couples swore love by it. One day, a nobleman with his family arrived. "This is my homeland," he said. His child pointed out the stone. The man approached, then retreated in shock, walking into the sea, swallowed by a wave. Neither he nor the Stone of Hope was seen again.

From the Future

"I'm from the future," he claimed. "I believe you," I replied. "Good, last time a guard didn't, and he died." "Coincidence?" I asked. "I warned a village of fire, but they didn't believe me, and it burned," he said. "Did you kill the guard and burn the village?" I asked. "Of course, who would believe otherwise?" he replied.

Promises

The great bard Anthony deceived high society women with flattery. One night, he targeted a coquettish aristocrat. "I'm captivated by your beauty," he said. "Prove it," she challenged. "Take my life and heart," he offered. "Do you mean it?" she asked. "Yes," he replied. The next day, his lifeless body was found, drained of blood, with a gaping hole where his heart had been.
