Star Shards
Star Shards are the primary refining material in Forsaken World — used at the blacksmith to push gear +1 to +12. Sources: Run Lola Run quest, Nightmare Bazaar, daily quests, drops, Eyrda Boutique. Match Shard tier to item level.

Overview
| Name | Star Shards |

| Time Limit | None (untradeable on most servers, but unbound persistent stock) |
Star Shards are crystals required to enhance equipment through the refining system. They are the single most-consumed currency in mid-to-late game gear progression — every attempt to push a piece of gear from +1 → +12 consumes Star Shards, scaling with the success-rate boost you select (1 to 8 Shards per attempt).
Without a steady Shard income, refining stalls. This makes Shard farming routes one of the most important PvE economy loops for any character past level 40.
How They Work
- Take an item to a blacksmith.
- Open the Enhance Equipment service.
- Add 1-8 Star Shards to the slot. The more Shards, the higher the success chance.
- (Optional) Add Star Quartz to further increase the success rate beyond the cap.
- Pay the gold cost and confirm. On success, the item refines +1 level; on failure, the Shards are consumed but the item is unchanged.
Where to Get Them
Star Shards come from many sources, ranked here by reliability:
- Quest Run, Lola, Run — guaranteed reward, classic farming quest.
- Daily quests at level-appropriate hubs.
- Nightmare Bazaar — vendor stock that rotates daily.
- Gift Chests — event drops, login rewards, holiday containers.
- Random monster drops in level-appropriate zones (low rate, but constant).
- Instances and dungeons — bonus rewards on completion.
- Eyrda Boutique (Cash Shop) — guaranteed bulk supply.
Tiers and Item-Level Match
Shards come in graded tiers. Lower-grade Shards refine lower-level items efficiently; using them on high-level items costs more for less success.
- Up to level 40: standard Star Shards.
- Level 50+: higher-grade variants — required for efficient refining of endgame gear.
Always match Shard tier to item level for the best Shard-per-success ratio.
Strategy — Stockpiling and Use
- Never push a +0 weapon to +12 mid-leveling. You'll burn through your stockpile and outlevel the gear before reaching it.
- Hit +3 / +6 breakpoints first across multiple slots (cheap, unlocks gem sockets).
- Pour Shards into +9 → +10 → +11 → +12 only on confirmed long-term gear (typically endgame weapon and armor sets).
- Always use 8 Shards + Star Quartz on the high-tier attempts where reagent waste is dwarfed by the time saved.
Interesting Facts
- Star Shards are Refinement Stones in inventory category.
- They have no time limit — stockpile freely.
- Refinable slots: weapons, headgear, shirts, shoulder pads, bracers, belts, pants, boots. Jewelry and accessories cannot be refined and don't consume Star Shards.
- Failed enhancements never break the item or reset its refinement level. Only Shards and gold are lost.
FAQ
Q: How many Shards should I keep in stock? A: For early-mid game, 200-300 in your inventory at all times. For endgame +10/+11/+12 pushes, build up several thousand before attempting — those tiers can fail repeatedly.
Q: Can Shards be traded or auctioned? A: This depends on the server's bind settings. Some servers allow trading lower-grade Shards via the Auction House; higher-grade variants are typically character-bound.
Q: What's the difference between Star Shards and Star Quartz? A: Star Shards provide the base success-rate input (1-8 per attempt). Star Quartz is an additional booster you optionally add on top to push the success chance further.
Q: Best repeatable source past level 80? A: Daily quest rotations + Nightmare Bazaar + occasional Boutique purchases for big pushes. Don't rely on monster drops alone — the per-mob rate is too low.
