Marksman

Overview

Class Marksman
Available Races Dwarves
Attack Type Ranged
Armor Light Armor
Weapon Crossbow / Firearm (Dwarven gunpowder weapon)
Defense Low
Attack High (sustained)
Role Ranged DPS — single target focus

With a steady finger and an even steadier will, the Marksman prefers to take out enemies from a distance. Their incredible range allows them to rain a volley of pain on any unfortunate victim within sight.

In addition to this deadly range, advances in Dwarven technology led the Marksman to use gunpowder — making them the only class in Forsaken World with firearms. This sets them apart from every other ranged class in the game: where Mages cast spells and Rangers fire arrows, Marksmen pull triggers.

Class Identity — Distance Killers

Following a very different combat philosophy from the Assassin, Marksmen whittle down opponents from a distance instead of focusing on a single deadly attack. Their consistent damage-over-time output makes them deadly opponents when left alone — and their long-range positioning lets them dictate engagement distance in PvP.

A Marksman in a free firing line is one of the most dangerous targets on the battlefield. The challenge for opposing players: get past the range advantage and into the Marksman's weak melee zone before being whittled down themselves.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Longest effective range in the game (alongside ranged Mages)
  • Sustained DPS with high uptime — no big windups required
  • Strong in field PvP and arena where range and positioning win fights
  • Dwarven engineering theme is unique to this class
  • Excellent for ranged sniping in raids — the Marksman picks off mobile adds before melee can engage

Weaknesses

  • Very fragile in melee range — gear and consumables can't fully compensate
  • No native self-healing
  • High mana / ammunition consumption depending on build
  • Predictable rotations can be punished by skilled opponents who close distance

Talent Branches

The Marksman has three talent branches, each shifting the playstyle:

  • Eye — accuracy and crit-focused, the canonical PvP build
  • Spirit — sustained DPS and resource management
  • Explosion — burst-AoE pivot, situational PvE clear

Best Race for Marksman

Dwarves — exclusive to the Marksman class. Dwarven racial bonuses align perfectly with mid-range physical DPS, and their lore makes the gunpowder-and-engineering theme work cohesively.

Play Style

PvE (Solo / Group DPS)

Maintain maximum range from targets. Sustained shots from 18m+ chip away at boss HP without aggro pulls. In groups, hold the back line — Marksmen are non-tanks and shouldn't pull aggro.

PvP (Arena / Field)

Establish range advantage early. Use crowd control to stop gap-closers. Eye branch builds excel here with accuracy + crit gear stacking. The biggest mistake new Marksmen make: getting closed on by an Assassin or Warrior and panicking — practice your kiting and pre-fire defensive cooldowns.

FAQ

Q: Why pick Marksman over Ranger? A: Marksman is single-target focused with longer effective range. Ranger leans into AoE clears with 40° cone attacks. Pick Marksman if your goal is killing one big thing fast; Ranger if you're farming dense mob clusters.

Q: Best Marksman branch for new players? A: Spirit for the smoothest sustained DPS and least gear-dependent feel. Eye is stronger but rewards precise gear optimization.

Q: Are Marksmen viable in arena? A: Yes — Eye branch Marksmen are common arena picks. The challenge is positioning; with practice, the range advantage lets you outduel most melee classes.

Q: How is Marksman different from a regular MMO archer? A: The gunpowder/firearm theme. Marksmen use Dwarven engineered weapons that look more like rifles than bows — their attack animations and effects fit a different aesthetic from Forsaken World's standard fantasy archetypes.
