Tempering
Forsaken World Tempering — gear enhancement system for armor (separate from refining). Adds permanent defensive bonuses. Stacks with refining. Cap +10. Performed at Blacksmith with Tempering Stones.
Overview
Tempering is the gear tempering mechanic in Forsaken World — a separate enhancement system from refining that adds permanent defensive bonuses to armor pieces. Tempering and refining stack independently — both are needed for cap-90 endgame BiS.

Tempering Process
To begin, you need to activate the scroll. This requires an unactivated tempering scroll and equipment (you can use Relics or equipment obtained from other instances) of the same quality as the scroll, with a level between 45-80.
- Note: The equipment will be destroyed in any case, and if activation fails, the scroll will also be destroyed! Choose equipment you do not need.
First, evaluate the equipment you plan to use to activate the scroll. This can be done with a Prophet's Scroll. The evaluation on the equipment must match the attribute on the scroll.

Once you have equipment with the appropriate evaluation, open the activation interface by right-clicking on the unactivated tempering scroll.
What you see:
- Slot for the equipment to activate the scroll.
- Tempering Scroll.
- Number of Tempering Essences you have.
- Number of Tempering Shards you have.
- Activation chance.
- Slots for Tempering Shards and Essences.
- Payment options: Numia or coins.
- Tips.
Next, move the equipment into the activation interface. Hovering over the scroll will reveal the possible attribute value on the scroll if activation is successful (the stat range and its maximum value depend on the equipment's evaluation).

To increase the activation chance, you can use Tempering Shards and Essences, up to 4 pieces in total. Once everything is ready, choose the payment method for activation and press "Start". If you choose coins, the scroll will not be bound to the character upon activation (provided all used items are unbound).
In case of failed activation, all used items will be lost. However, there is a chance to receive some Tempering Shards or Essences as compensation. If successful, you will find an activated tempering scroll with a determined attribute value in your inventory.
The final step is to right-click on the ready scroll, then left-click on the equipment to be tempered. The equipment will gain a new property indicated on the scroll with a 100% chance. This is an additional stat that does not affect evaluation/re-evaluation.
Tips
- An activated scroll is tied to the type of equipment used for activation. For example, if activated with a weapon, it can only temper a weapon.
- The activated scroll and the equipment to be tempered do not need to be of the same quality. A blue scroll can temper purple equipment, but the stat on the equipment will be significantly lower than on the scroll. The quality should not differ by more than one grade, i.e., a blue scroll cannot temper gold equipment.
- Equipment can be tempered multiple times, but only one attribute can be present at a time. The property will be replaced each time.
- Scrolls can have attributes: Attack, Defense, Health, Mana, Elemental Attack/Defense, and Elemental Mastery/Resistance.
- To "farm" Tempering Shards and Essences, you can intentionally "fail" the activation of unnecessary scrolls.
- The higher the level of the equipment (to be broken), the higher the attribute value in the evaluation can be. The higher the evaluation value, the higher the maximum attribute value on the scroll.
FAQ
Q: Tempering vs refining — which to do first? A: Refining (unlocks gem sockets, stat boosts). Tempering second (defensive layer). Most players reach +6 refine across full set before starting tempering.
Q: Where can I temper? A: At the Blacksmith — separate service from refining. Costs Tempering Stones, gold, and time.
Q: Maximum temper level? A: Most servers cap at +10 tempering. Each level adds permanent defense and damage resistance.
