Overview

Midnight Chronicles is a Forsaken World dark-themed lore series — chronicling night-only events, vampire history, and the formation of the Blood Brotherhood. Especially relevant for Vesperian and Demon-race players invested in their racial histories.

This article covers the in-world story content, lore beats, and player relevance.

The Mask

My friends and I received a task from a client to find an ancient mask in a burial site. Driven by greed, we agreed. Upon reaching the site, we found the entrance sealed by strong magic, only openable with the blood of a living person. We sacrificed the weakest among us to open the door. As we progressed, our numbers dwindled as we killed each other to overcome magical obstacles. Eventually, we found the mask, inscribed with: "Betrayal, murder, deceit, hatred, the blood of a comrade can awaken this mask."

Sayings

It's easy to find wealth in the world, but hard to discover the treasures of your soul. I seek the dead man's treasure - wealth! The dead took my treasure - life! Searching is like solving a crime; you can't miss a single detail. When I dug up another's grave, I dug my own.

The Last One

A year after the last bard was expelled, a new bard arrived at the tavern, attracting all the local thieves and bandits. "What do you want to hear?" asked the bard. "Sing something!" they shouted. The bard nodded, took his guitar, and sang. "Stars shine with the tears of gods, lighting my path. I am a lonely traveler..." The dwarves interrupted, "That's a sappy song for women, give us a real man's song!" "About murder, robbery, and violence! Do we have to teach you?" said a robber-cannibal. "Then I'll tell you a story!" said the bard. "Begin!" the crowd yelled. The bard told a story of murders in a tavern where the killer left no one alive. "This story is called The Last One!" the bard concluded. "Hey, who was the killer, and who is the last one?" someone shouted. "The last one?" the bard pondered, "I am the last one!" He left the tavern, leaving silence behind.

Main Weapon

I've tried many weapons: sword, dagger, gun, spear, knife. Weapons saved my life or helped take another's. But none compare to the one I'm about to tell you about. Mastering it brings great advantage to an adventurer, leading to the ultimate treasure and wealth alone. Do you understand? This weapon is called "human emotions."

Treasure Map

Why does someone who hides treasure always leave a map? Are they afraid they won't find it again? I don't believe it. I conducted an experiment, bought treasure locations, and gave them to ten robbers. Only one returned alive. He said if the map indicated to go up, he went down; if a place was marked safe, he was extremely cautious. This saved his life. So I tell you, strictly following a map's directions can lead only to death.

Captive Soul

Three years and six months after her disappearance, you received the information you needed. You settled all affairs, sold your house, ensuring nothing was left behind as if you never existed. Then, wearing your best clothes, you headed to the desert. You crossed it safely and stood before her. She didn't recognize you; the years had changed much. But you approached her without hesitation, fulfilling your old promise: "We won't part while alive, and after death, our souls will intertwine." Now, no one can separate you. You will become her, the only soul imprisoned by the soul keeper. Forever.

The Last Time

Kaur lived well after acquiring a necklace that turned him into a cockroach. As a cockroach, he could infiltrate any place, gathering valuable information. Today, Kaur received a new task: the client hoped he could infiltrate a mysterious palace and map it. Kaur looked at the necklace. With each use, its power weakened. "This is the last time," thought Kaur. At the palace entrance, he turned into a cockroach and entered effortlessly. Once inside, he transformed back into a human, exploring the labyrinth and mapping it. Despite his caution, he fell into a trap and was caged. Without hesitation, he used the necklace, turned into a cockroach, and escaped. He wanted to become human again, but the necklace had exhausted its magic. Now Kaur will remain a cockroach until he finds a new necklace.

Faith

As enemies approached the city walls, the empire's mage found the power of great faith from a parallel world. He had never seen such strong faith. Based on his experience, he decided that the deities of the parallel world had reached the highest development. So he began summoning a great deity from the parallel world, believing it would help defeat the enemies. The mage succeeded. Before him appeared a large statue of a young man tied to a post, looking down sadly. The mage couldn't believe his eyes. The large statue emitted no magic. It was stone! The space collapsed before the dark mage, and he slowly fell to the ground, never to awaken.

History

The great ruler Hamu Radi conquered the world, ended all chaos, and created an extraordinary magical civilization. People revered him as a god. A hundred years later, the temple of Hamu Radi was known worldwide. He was a legend. Five hundred years later, his empire was destroyed, and he became the embodiment of evil mages. A thousand years later, the magical ruins of Hamu Radi's era were excavated, and he became the father of magic for a new generation. Five thousand years later, history books mentioned him in just a few lines: "Ruler of a small state five thousand years ago. Nothing is known about his life." This story is pure truth.

The Impossible

The great god said: "There must be Heaven and Earth in this world." Chaos divided, and Heaven and Earth appeared. The great god said: "There must be light to dispel darkness." Stars, the moon, and the sun appeared in the sky. The great god said: "There must be life in this world." Birds, animals, and humans appeared. With the advent of humans, changes occurred in the world: people killed each other and tried to possess everything. The great god saw this and wished for no discord among people. But this time, no changes occurred. In response to the god's words, people continued to act as they pleased. And then the god realized he was not omnipotent. At least, not when it came to such complex beings as humans.
