Overview

The Kindred are Eyrda's vampire race, and their main questline is where a freshly-awakened bloodline child learns what it means to walk between the living and the dead. It opens in the Kindred homeland around Dusk Town, carries you through a war that nearly wipes out your people, and ends by sending you out to Freedom Harbor to take your place in the wider world alongside every other race.

Along the way you earn the powers that define the Kindred forever after — the ability to take the form of a bat, the predatory Bite, and the signature Vampiric Kiss. This guide walks the story arc and the racial abilities you unlock, without spoiling every twist.

The story, phase by phase

1. Blood Awakening

You wake newly turned, your old life behind you. A mentor of the Kindred takes you in hand, steadies your first transformation into Bat Form, and begins teaching you the origin of the bloodline. These early steps hand you your first real weapon and your earliest combat skills, including the predatory Bite — the gift that makes a Kindred a Kindred.

2. The war for the homeland

The peace doesn't last. The lands around Dusk Town come under attack, villages fall, and friends go missing. You're thrown into the hunt — tracking the raiders, gathering the evidence that reveals who is really behind the slaughter, and learning that a werewolf curse is spreading through the survivors. The trail leads from ruined homesteads up into the mountains and the caves above them.

3. The Bite

At the heart of the questline is the moment the Kindred fantasy pays off. Faced with someone doomed to turn into something worse, you're given the choice to save them the only way a Kindred can — by using your Bite to draw them into the bloodline instead. It's the story showing you, hands-on, exactly what your racial power is for.

4. Graduation

With the immediate threat broken and the truth carried back to your elders, your mentor sends you onward. You leave the Kindred homeland for Freedom Harbor, the bustling hub where adventurers of every race gather, and you're pointed toward the Lionheart Champions to begin your career in earnest. From here the race-specific story hands off to the world at large.

Signature Kindred powers

The questline is also your introduction to the abilities that set the vampire race apart:

  • Bite — a single-target strike, and the mechanic the story uses to turn another character into one of the Kindred. It's the soul of the class fantasy.
  • Vampiric Kiss — the iconic Kindred racial: it bites into an enemy and silences them, cutting off their spellcasting.
  • Bat Form — your transformation, first awakened in the opening chapters.

The Kindred also belong to their own faction, the Sanguine Circle — the order the vampire race enlists in, just as Humans and Dwarves join the Lionheart Champions and Stonemen and Elves ally with the Union of the Woods.

Tips

  • Use auto-path generously. The early chapters bounce you between the same handful of NPCs around Dusk Town; click the highlighted names in the quest text to run there automatically.
  • Learn Bite the moment it's offered. Beyond the story beat, it's a core part of how the Kindred play.
  • Don't rush past the cutscenes. The Kindred opening carries the best of the race's lore — the bloodline's origin and your place in it.
  • Finish the line before wandering off. It hands you starter gear, your racial skills, and a clean send-off to Freedom Harbor where the rest of the game opens up.

FAQ

Is this questline race-locked? Yes — it's the Kindred (vampire) racial story, available to Kindred characters as their starting main line.

What makes it different from other races' opening quests? The Kindred fantasy. You awaken as a vampire, gain Bat Form, and the story literally puts the Bite in your hands by having you turn someone into one of your kind.

Which faction do the Kindred belong to? The Sanguine Circle, the vampire race's order. Every race funnels into the shared adventurer hub at Freedom Harbor afterward.

Where does it leave off? At Freedom Harbor, with an introduction to the Lionheart Champions — the point where the racial story merges into the wider questing world.
